We are thinking about getting Gabby a new friend.

Two cats and two dogs. Is it too much?

I can't decide if I can handle four pets in one house.

We should probably wait until after our trip to Ohio.

p.s. Ohio friends: we will be staying at Levi's mothers house from August 16th to the 23rd.

We will be in Cincinnati the 19th and 20th to visit the zoo and The Beach (I can't wait! I love water parks!)

Lets plan a date and be friends in person for a day! :D

My first commissioned painting:

Photobucket

A portrait of my co-workers daughter and her fiance the day of their engagement (01/01/09).

I'm thrilled with how it came out. It's only the second portrait I've done in oil paint (make that any paint - my medium is generally pencil).

It's already spurred three more potential projects and I can't wait to get started on them! I can only get better from here!

My upcoming plans for my little home are:

to cut and paint hundreds of paper feathers, I love feathers but I just can't stand the thought of plucking birds for my decorating pleasures. I, now, have the perfect solution!

find loads of cacti to plant in my poor unused wedding wine glasses. They have beautiful quotes of scholars etched on them that you cannot see in my cabinet!

find or have someone build basic benches to line my table that has gone unused for months for lack of seating,

and then I just need more reason to have cacti so I'll need a wooden box,

I've, also, always wanted grass indoors, kitty friendly of course!

and then it will be time for the dreaded but necessary doggie bed and crate. I'm still stumpped on how I will integrate it into the house but I'll come up with something! Just give it time.

A few things that need be shared [Feb. 2nd, 2009|10:54 pm]
In the past 5 minutes on this inter web I have come across the most beautiful, most amazing finds that you need to see:

http://terrainathome.com/

http://decor8blog.com/

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5520771

Maybe you've already been there but one lead to another and another and I just can't stop. I have so many windows open and I can't stop switching back and forth.

p.s. Terrain at Home is Urban Outfitters newest store! I'm gaga over it! I need it to be here, now.

I was just browsing Saucy Dwellings and read someones comment about buying a puppy and how it is safer and more easily trained, etc. Well, being a topic that I am quite passionate about I got all huffy and wrote the longest response about how I adopted a 9 year old dog that is coming along quite well and that it is irresponsible and reckless for her to be spouting information about a topic that she clearly doesn't know anything about. She admitted to taking over a year to house break her puppy! Shouldn't take that long if she actually knew what she was doing. I went on and on and then realized that the topic was about a week old and it would be quite silly for me to revive it. So I didn't post it. GUH! I wish I had been around then so I could have corrected her-- in a much more civilized and polite manner than I am typing now. I don't like starting LJ wars.

Just so everyone here knows- Old dogs are amazing. They CAN learn new tricks. They will not pee all over your house and bark incessiantly through the night, unless you let them.

It's pretty amazing how it can be 24 degrees outside and 30 degrees warmer than yesterday. I mean, really, I'm still trying to wrap my head around that. If you add in wind chill it is approximately 51 degrees warmer. Warmer? 24 degrees. Warmer! I shed one layer of clothing today. It allowed for much more mobility. Yesterday if I wanted to see the ground or my dog I had to bend at the waist. I took the little brother's snow suit in A Christmas Story to an all new level.

1 Year. [Dec. 29th, 2008|12:56 pm]

We made it.

Today is our one year wedding anniversary.

We were engaged two years ago today.

We were super secretly and informally engaged three years ago today.

It's not been easy.

I was told to expect that.

He's my best friend.

We annoyingly know what each other is thinking and can complete sentences for one another.

We proved that during a Christmas day round of Boggle.

We owned.

Here's to another year.

[Current Mood |Christmas]

I am writing my Christmas list today. I am trying so hard to make every gift I give this year and I am struggling on a few. I am going to search the internet today for ideas and hopefully get a supply list ready for payday!

I sort of already want to put up my tree. Is that ok? Working retail kind of sucks the Christmas joy out of December so I like to enjoy my tree in November! hehe!

I've also already begun my very own Christmas tradition of watching Elf. When it gets closer to Christmas I watch it almost every day. I just can't help myself.

The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

I wish Levi liked Christmas as much as I do.

My heart is broken after hearing that Barack Obama's "Toot" has passed. One day before the election. I can't imagine the pain.

I'm going to walk over to Millennium Park after work. The rally should just be starting when I leave. I'm very interested to see what it will look like. I, obviously, don't have a ticket into the party but they just mapped it out on the news and there will be a large section for ticket holders and another large section for non-ticket holders. It's definitely an event that I cannot pass up.

How can Joe Francis be so gross and so charming at the same time? Seriously, he is on Tyra and I can see her really enjoying his company. She would typically be shredding someone like him. A girl goes on and says I sleep with boys and Tyra screams satan spawn but Joe francis goes on and says he video tapes drunk girls taking off their clothes and Tyra is SO into it!

Three in one day. I am setting world records.

To anyone with student loans or anyone that would like to help without paying a dime:

Today when I logged into manageyourloans.com I was prompted to join this "upromise" program. Initially I ignored it but then another link appeared on my payment screen. SallieMae is promoting this offer to earn money to help pay off your loans-- something I've always dreamt of. Basically, you sign up, register your credit card, and shop. Then the participating sponsors- over 8000- give you a small percentage (up to 8%) of every purchase. It all collects in your upromise account and will be applied to your outstanding balance on a quarterly basis. I know it may sound fishy but SallieMae is a sponsor and advocate and if I can trust them with literally every piece of my personal information and thousands of dollars I think I can hand them my credit card account that wouldn't pay three months of my payments (I'm sure they have all of the information anyways!).

I hope I can get my parents in on the action. It's really not a lot of money all at once but when you consider that the life of my loans is expected to be in the 20+ year range it will absolutely add up.

Now, I just need to remember to use my debit card as a credit card when we are out shopping.

OH and I can use grocery "savers" cards. I typically only shop at Trader Joes or Jewel-Osco so I'll register that number but if anyone out there shoppes Dominicks, Peapod, Meijer, Albertsons, or CVS I would be ever so grateful for your keychain card number! I don't need anything other than the grocery card number- no credit card, no personal info, not even your real name. But then every purchase you make could help me pay my student loans! Every penny counts!

This makes me wish John McCain was my uncle- haha. It's nice to see the silly side and not always the serious side. And I think old men are cute. I can't help but "lol" when I look at it.

Levi and I just voted! I'm pretty excited about it. Now we don't have to flood into the polling places on Nov. 4 with everyone else. And I am very proud that we got up early on a Sunday to do it. We aren't always the most motivated people and I honestly thought we'd end up blowing it off or just forgetting about it. The reason we HAD to go today was because neither of us were registered in Chicago and late registration ends tomorrow. If we hadn't gone today we would have had to drive back to our home towns. It didn't really occur to me that we needed to re-register until after the deadline. Thankfully, Chicago has a grace period and the only "penalty" is that you must vote the same day you register or take an absentee ballot when registering late. Again, not a problem for me.

Hooray.

Although, the whole thing makes me nervous. I've been following debates, watching the television news (several stations so not to only get one side), reading the news papers and researching online but I still don't feel 100% about any candidate. I have to be confident that the candidate I voted for will be a successful president but I'm still a bit uneasy.
